Assessed Task 4

Magnificent Bowl – Soundtrack

You work as an assistant sound recordist at a local radio station preparing sound materials for use in adverts and jingles.

The local ten-pin bowling alley, Magnificent Bowl, has approached the radio station to produce a series of adverts to promote the facilities at the bowling alley.

You have been asked to prepare the following sound materials to be used in this advertising campaign:

•Appropriate background music
•Sounds of people laughing and enjoying themselves
•Appropriate sound effects
•A short voice over giving at least the contact details of the bowling alley

You only thing you need to record yourself is the voice-over. This must last between 15-30 seconds. The advertisement should last between 15-60 seconds.

Do the task first. We will consider the planning afterwards!

Use www.findsounds.com

Assessed Task 3

iMedia – Assessed task 3 – Explaining basic computer procedures to a specific audience (S.Miles\iMedia\How_To_Max)

For this task you will meet Max. Max does not know very much about computers and he needs some help.

Listen to Max's questions and then complete this presentation explaining how Max should solve each one of his problems. You should use screenshots to help explain what Max has to do. You may have to find some of your screenshots using google images due to school restrictions. After you have created the presentation you need to save the slides as JPG’s and export them to movie maker to create a short film with appropriate backing music of your own choice. This must be posted to your blog.

Remember Max hardly knows anything about computers. You need to explain everything in very easy terms with lots of pictures. You can use more than one slide if you need to.

For this task you are assessed on the following:

•Your ability to carry out simple procedures on a computer
•Your ability to consider a particular audience when creating multi-media
•Your ability to use a number of software packages to create a piece of digital video

Famous films from the last 80 years

So how many of the films do you recognise from the stills (answers in the session)?

This week you get to view and review a selection of famous movies clips from 1925 to 1993 (S.Miles endorsed!)

When reviewing the films you might want to discuss:

What are your immediate thoughts? What do you notice about the filming techniques used? What messages do you feel the film maker is trying to convey? Did you enjoy it? Does it make you want to watch the whole film? Why do you think this film or scene has become one of the most famous of all time

These are the films you will be watching clips of:

Battleship Potemkin (1925)
Metropolis (1927)
King Kong (1933)
The Wizard of Oz (1939)
Citizen Kane (1941)
Psycho (1960)
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
The French Connection (1971)
Rocky (1976)
The Shining (1980)

Radio ads

This week

After you have posted all of your flash tasks and digital art entries onto your blog…

Listen to the Apache Pizza radio ads found here:
ICT\Mr_S.Miles\iMedia\Radio_Ads

You have been tasked with creating a 20 second radio ad for Apache Pizza using audacity. You have 3 hours. First create a plan/storyboard.

You can use sound effects/music you get from the Internet. There are lots of websites. Try:

http://www.stonewashed.net/sfx.html

You must speak at some point on the ad (you can disguise your voice)

If you get finished quickly create a banner ad for Apache Pizza using software of your own choice.

TASK 3: Review the animation against the original brief

Review your work against the criteria and assess how you have met them.
Evidence of your review could include feedback from others (tutors, colleagues, peers, etc) on the finished product.

The review must be recorded using the Planning and Review Form at the back of the assignment. The review could be carried out as a discussion between the candidate and the tutor acting as client. The history of animation and its different forms (LO2, 4, 5)

As well as creating two animations for this unit you also need to produce a piece of work that reports on the history of animation and the different types of animation.

This report can take any format. For example you might produce a PowerPoint presentation, a Word document, a movie or a magazine article.

You must include the following in your report:

Task 2 – Allow 60-90 minutes – Types of animation – using the Internet (some links below) find out what you can about (at least 3) different types of animation. These could include; flip books, cut out animations, cell animations, time lapse photography or computer animations. You have been asked to produce a 4-8 page guide on the basics of Photography, Digital Graphics and Obtaining and Editing images.

You will be creating the guide for inclusion in the January issue of the magazine. You should consider how magazines typically set out articles such as these and you should also consider your audience and their ability. You should explain these concepts by means of edited version of images you obtain and some narrative by way of explanation.

Part 2 (2-4 pages) Basic image editing and software features

Use a range of editing techniques, and explain briefly these techniques within the guide. You will edit photographs that you have taken alongside the explanations, to ensure they are suitable for the purpose you have identified within the guide. Edited and original versions of the images may appear in your guide along with a brief narrative as to how the editing is carried out within the chosen software application. Keep clearly labelled copies of the original and edited versions of the images in the selected formats.

Note: This is NOT aimed to be a complete software training manual.

TASK 3: Carry out basic editing on the photographs you have taken and transferred to your computer
Assessment Objectives: 2a, 2b, 2c
a) Locate and launch an image manipulation program
b) Open your photographs using the software application
c) Using the tools and features of the interface and workspace, edit the photographs you have taken – this editing could include - resizing, cropping, scaling, altering brightness, colour balance, etc

TASK 4: Edit the photographs accordingly to suit the purpose
Assessment Objective: 3a
a) Locate and launch an appropriate software application.
b) Open your photographs within the application and use the tools and features to demonstrate the functionality to users.

TASK 5: Review the editing
Assessment Objective: 3b
